To many people, the idea of going to therapy can be intimidating. After our initial phone conversation, the therapist will send you some paperwork to fill out and bring to our first session. This paperwork will give the therapist a brief overview of why you are seeking counseling and also outline the policies and procedures of the office. When you come for our session together, you will be greeted in our waiting room. Once our session begins, the therapist will ask you to share what brought you to this point and ask you to elaborate beyond what you shared in our phone consult. In order to get the most out of our time together, our only request is that you remain open and honest about how you feel. And don’t be afraid to ask questions. The more you understand the process the more comfortable you will feel. From there we will begin to unpack what has been going on and how the sessions from this point forward can help you address your needs and get to the place you want to be.

Our therapists are trained in a variety of psychotherapy frameworks and have an array of, specialty areas (see: Services). In addition, have a background in evangelical Christian theology. The therapists incorporate the best of psychological theory which includes a variety of theoretical models and combine it, if desired, with a Biblical foundation in order to give you the best possible outcome. Our goal is to help you understand who you are on the deepest level and who God called you to be so that you can live life with intention and purpose.

Of course not! We work with individuals of all faiths and backgrounds. While many of our clients wish to incorporate their faith and the Word of God in our sessions, some clients sought our practice out because they were curious about God and how a relationship with him could enhance their life. Others do not fit into either of these categories, but the therapists’ overall personality and style of work fits their needs.

Sharon Klein Counseling (SKC) offers in-person and virtual therapy to meet clients where they are.

We currently see clients in person at our offices in Massapequa and Wantagh, New York.

We also offer secure telehealth sessions through a HIPAA-compliant video platform.

Our therapists are licensed to practice in New York, South Carolina, and Massachusetts. Clients must be located in a state where their therapist is licensed at the time of session.

Our team uses a safe and secure, encrypted HIPPA compliant video conferencing platform to conduct our online sessions. You will get an email confirming your session. That email contains a secure link to your session. You will be invited into a virtual waiting room. When our session begins you and your therapist will be able to view each other and speak in real time similar to using Facetime or Skype.

Our Massapequa office is handicap accessible with a lift.

At Sharon Klein Counseling (SKC), we believe that high-quality mental health care should be accessible, compassionate, and financially attainable. We work intentionally with our clients to help them understand their options and make therapy financially possible.

Insurance

SKC is in-network with a variety of insurance plans.

When we are in-network with your plan, you are typically responsible only for your copayment or coinsurance, depending on your specific benefits.

We also offer:

  • Courtesy billing for NYSHIP clients
  • Superbills for all other insurance plans to submit for potential out-of-network reimbursement

Coverage and out-of-pocket costs vary by plan. Our administrative team is happy to assist with benefit verification prior to beginning services.

Private Pay

For clients who choose not to use insurance, or whose plans are out-of-network, our private pay rate is $150 per 55-minute therapy session. Payment is due at the time of service.

No Surprises Act / Good Faith Estimate

Under the No Surprises Act, clients who are not using insurance or who are self-pay have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of the expected cost of services.

A Good Faith Estimate outlines the anticipated charges for therapy services and is provided upon request or prior to the start of services. Please note that actual charges may vary depending on the number of sessions attended or changes to the treatment plan.

If you have questions our team is happy to discuss this with you.

We are in network with the following insurance carriers: United Health Care, Cigna, Oxford, Aetna, 1199, and Northwell- Tier 1.

We accept NYSHIP using out of network benefits.

We are out of network with all other insurances. If you have out of network benefits, your sessions may still qualify for reimbursement.

For the convenience of our clients we can give you a superbill so you can submit it to your insurance provider for reimbursement at your request. Please be sure to call your insurance carrier and verify benefits prior to your first appointment and check with your insurance directly to see if you have out of network (OON) mental health benefits.

If your insurance plan requires pre-authorization for services, please call the member service number (on the back of your insurance card) prior to your first appointment. Here are a few of the questions you will need to ask your insurance provider.

  • Do I have mental health benefits?
  • What is my deductible and has it been met?
  • How many sessions per calendar year does my plan cover?
  • Is Sharon Klein LCSW PC group practice in network?
  • How much does my plan cover for an out-of-network provider?
  • What is the coverage amount per counseling session?
  • Is approval required from my primary care physician?

Most of our clients come for weekly sessions. Others come two or even three times a week based on need and their specific circumstances. It is important, especially as we begin, to come weekly at minimum in order to build a strong therapeutic relationship. We will talk about the frequency and time of your appointments in order to best fit your unique situation and allow you to get the most out of our time together.
We wish we could tell you that therapy offers a quick fix. It is true that you may feel better rather quickly after attending a few sessions due to developing and implementing some practical steps toward your goals. But the process of therapy is just that–a process. It takes time to understand what has led you to this place, and what needs to be done in order for you to heal and reach your goals. You may also find that as one goal is met, you begin to see other areas in your life you want to work on and so the therapy becomes valuable for new reasons. Whatever your situation, we will not keep you any longer than the time we feel it is beneficial. In addition, in a few circumstances, we may suggest that we help you find a different therapist to better suit your needs, personality or specific situation in order to achieve the best outcome.

We work with passionate and driven people who desire to get the most out of the life that God has given them. If they feel stuck for any reason, we are here to give an empathetic ear, and offer practical tools, a biblical foundation, and continuous support to begin achieving their goals.

Many of our therapists offer in-person sessions, with the option to meet virtually through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform when appropriate.

Some clinicians provide telehealth-only services. Availability for in-person or virtual sessions may vary by therapist and can be confirmed during the scheduling process or by reviewing individual therapist profiles.

Our administrative team will work with you to help find the therapist who is the best fit for your needs, preferences, and availability.
